Sport emotions, competition and rivalry, the most outstanding names in the world of cycling – this is what awaits us on August 3rd near the Daniłowicz Shaft. This is where the athletes competing in the Tour de Pologne will set off from to Zakopane in order to overcome the challenges posed by the mountain stage of the race.


The “Wieliczka” Salt Mine enjoys continuing popularity in the media. Journalists report on underground events, record the news, gather materials for reportages and make documentary films. In 2016, 1155 representatives of the media travelled along the salt routes. The underground was visited by journalists from the press, radio and Internet, as well as bloggers, photographers, and numerous TV crews.


A new tourism record was set again in Małopolska – in 2016 the region was visited by 14.9 million tourists, over a million more compared to 2015. Asked about the most attractive places, tourists picked Krakow, Zakopane and the "Wieliczka” Salt Mine.


The New Year’s Concert at the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine enjoys such great popularity that this year we had to organise two of them. On the 7th and 8th of January, the Warsaw Chamber was filled with the music performed by talented soloists and the outstanding Krakow Opera Orchestra. The artists took their audience on an unforgettable musical journey to the 19th century Vienna.


It is said that the year will be as good as the New Year’s Eve was. Therefore, everyone who came for the New Year’s Eve celebration to the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine can be sure that 2017 will be perfect – just as the party 125 metres below the surface in the Warszawa Chamber.


Helmet, lamp, absorber, protective gear – this is the equipment of a śleper – a novice miner setting out onto the Miners’ Route in the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine. The adventure begins in the Regis Shaft.


38 years ago, a UNESCO session decided which monuments and objects would be entered onto the first list of World Heritage Sites. The honour was bestowed upon 12 unique and priceless locations, and the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine was one of them.


In July and August, we invite you to open-air concerts of the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine Representative Brass Band. The artists will play classic marches, along with hits from the silver screen and popular music, every Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the gazebo located near the Daniłowicz Shaft.


20 years ago, the exploitation of the salt deposit in the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine ended. On the 30th of June 1996, the mine in Wieliczka officially closed the industrial part of its history.


The Małopolska region was visited by the members of the Vatican Commission. They visited the places that will host the participants of the World Youth Days in the upcoming weeks. The delegates also visited the historic “Wieliczka” Salt Mine. The Vatican delegates were accompanied by His Eminence Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz and Bishop Damian Muskus.
