Wieliczka Salt Mine

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is a legendary destination, which has been attracting visitors from all over the world for generations. And it is no wonder why – this underground treasure lures and entices everybody with its unique atmosphere. Some even refer to the place as the Mine of Mysteries, because there is no shortage of interesting, unusual stories worth hearing. But wait, there’s more! In the mine you can find both a moment of respite and see something really special.

What makes the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine so special?

First and foremost, it is a priceless monument of world material culture, inscribed in 1978 on the First UNESCO World Heritage List. What is more, it is actually enormous. Over the course of more than 700 years, 26 shafts were struck in Wieliczka and 9 million cubic metres of post-mining voids were excavated. Only 2% of the salt labyrinth is open to the general public. At any time of the year, visitors touring the Tourist Route in the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine can experience an unforgettable adventure – especially in the autumn and winter season, since it lets you forget for a while about the bad weather outside and get immersed in a completely different world.

Tourist Route in the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine - a perfect trip for the whole family

Get ready for an amazing adventure. Our visitors have a chance to admire breath-taking brine lakes, underground chambers and salt architecture, which will leave everyone amazed and astonished. What is more, visitors can learn about old mining tools and machines that were used in the past to extract and transport salt.

The route is perfect for people of all ages; however, you should make sure to wear comfortable shoes, because there’s a lot of walking to do! On the other hand, every step will bring new attractions, with the famous St Kinga’s Chapel being the most impressive of all, where you will have the opportunity to admire real works of art carved in salt. No less impressive are the crystal chandeliers, which make the whole chamber shine, as well as the salt floor, which gently reflects their light.

When you visit the Tourist Route, get ready for an unforgettable experience. The air in the mine does not contain pollutants – one of the most burdensome and common detrimental factors found on the surface. The microclimate of salt workings is characterised by exceptional bacteriological purity, high relative humidity, sodium chloride, magnesium, manganese and calcium content, which all have a positive impact on health.
