Wieliczka Salt Mine

Exceptional space, perfect organisation – these are the secrets of a successful event. The historic “Wieliczka” Salt Mine offers all of that – and much, much more.  Tourists and event organisers are attracted to the underground labyrinth like flies to honey. If you are planning an event and you want to surprise your guests – take them deep underground! We can assure you that you will never find such a natural beauty of chambers carved in salt anywhere else in the world.

Traditions of underground cultural events

Cultural and entertainment events were organised in the Wieliczka mine as early as in the 19th century. Back in the day, the managers of the mine wanted to offer the visitors a broad offer of original attractions, including underground banquets and balls. Ballrooms were then decorated with salt sculptures and chandeliers made of salt crystals. The guests enjoyed the music played by a band hired for special occasions, which over time transformed into a mining orchestra, which exists to this day. Theatrical plays and dramas were also staged underground. Thrill-seekers could try crossing the bridge over the precipice, take advantage of the brine lake crossing and watch a demonstration of the descent to hell – miners descending on the rope.

Banquet halls carved in salt

These days, the conference and banquet facilities at the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine comprise seven salt chambers. The smallest of them has a total area of 58 m², while the largest - the Warszawa Chamber – offers as much as 680 m² of usable area. The 19th-century Warszawa Chamber, located at the depth of 125 metres hosts New Year's Eve Balls, New Year's classical music concerts, banquets, conferences and symposia.

The ambience of the Jan Haluszka Chamber is perfect for numerous events, as the visitors find it hard to resist the charm of this place. Salt walls illuminated by crystal chandeliers, shimmering with shades of grey and silver are very impressive, which makes it perfect for official dinners, parties and concerts.

No less attractive is the Michałowice chamber, which impresses the visitors with its size and majestic construction made of wooden logs – a perfect place to host a tasting or cocktail party.  The organisers of training sessions, conferences and workshops can take advantage of the Drozdowice IV chamber, which offers equipment perfectly suited to such events.

The showcase of our salt chambers would be incomplete without mentioning their excellent acoustics, which is particularly appreciated by musical and theatrical event organisers.

Each of the banquet halls in the mine is unique, mainly due to the specificity of the place, which combines the past with the present. The healthy microclimate and closeness of nature are additional benefits.

Another thing worthy of mention is the fact that the underground surroundings offer a pleasant temperature of around 17-18°C all year round, which means that your event can be organised regardless of the weather and season.
