Before starting the tour, you can use the toilets, which are located right next to the Daniłowicz Shaft. Toilets are also available underground in two locations along the route.

Can I rest and eat during the tour?

Ashort rest is planned in the Drozdowice Chamber. You can buy cold and hot drinks and snacks there.A longer rest is planned in the Karczma Górnicza restaurant, where Polish and international cuisine is served.
After returning to the surface you can spend time in the restaurant of the Grand Sal**** Hotel.

Can I visit with small children?

You can visit the Tourist Route with children of all ages. Children under 4 years of age are admitted free of charge.
There are facilities underground for parents – a changing table and special chairs in Karczma Górnicza.

Can I take a stroller underground?

Accepted Answer

You can take a folding stroller with you, but because of the large number of stairs (approx. 800), a carrier or sling may be more practical.
You can leave the stroller in the storage room, which is located on the surface near the Daniłowicz Shaft. There is no place where a stroller can be left after the start of the tour.

For greater comfort of visitors, the chambers and galleries of the Tourist Route are well-lit.

Is there an additional fee for a lift from the Mine to the surface?

All tourists leave the mine in the lift. The ride is included in the ticket price.

Is it possible for wheelchair users to tour the Mine?

Accepted Answer

Some of the underground workings of the Tourist Route are adapted for people with limited mobility.

The number of participants is limited. 

You can take an assistance dog or a guide for blind and visually impaired people to the mine.

Can you forgo the guide and tour the Mine on your own?

The Mine is a mining facility, which can be visited only under the supervision of a specially trained person. All guides have knowledge of first aid and OSH regulations in force in the Mine.
The guides know many stories, tales and even mysteries of the Wieliczka Mine, which they share with the visitors. Without the astonishing guide stories, the tour wouldn’t be as exciting.
Not everyone is aware that the underground corridors are about 245 km long and are often referred to as a salt labyrinth. That is why it is so important to move around the underground with someone who can find their way through the maze of underground shafts and galleries.

Is it possible to take pictures and videos in the Mine?

You can take photos and film; however, you can use the photos for private purposes only.

What is the temperature in the Mine?

The temperature underground is around 17–18°C. When setting out on the trail, it is worth to wear clothing appropriate to the conditions, it is best to dress in layers.

How long is the tour?

A walk on the Tourist Route lasts about 2 hours – after that time visitors can return to the surface.
It is also possible to visit the underground exhibition of the Cracow Saltworks Museum and extend the trip to 3 hours.

Do tourists have to wear helmets and lamps?

Accepted Answer

The Tourist Route is fully illuminated and equipped with emergency lighting, so there is no need for a lamp. For greater convenience of tourists, mining regulations concerning the wearing of helmets have been waived. Thanks to this, you can enjoy an underground walk without having to take mining equipment with you.

Is it true that the air in the Mine is healthy?

The underground air is characterised by exceptional bacteriological purity and high content of sodium chloride, as well as magnesium and calcium ions.
The salt microclimate supports the treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract diseases, as well as asthma and allergies – that is why the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine Health Resort is located at a depth of 135 metres.

Are there any diseases that are a contraindication to visiting the Mine?

The tour does not require any special fitness, but it is worthwhile to realistically assess your capabilities. The tour takes about 2-3 hours and the route includes about 800 steps.
If you are chronically ill, consult your doctor to rule out any contraindications. Claustrophobia may be a contraindication.

Can the Mine be visited by pregnant women?

Women who work and lead an active lifestyle should not suffer from any discomfort when visiting underground. However, it is worth realistically evaluating your abilities and consulting a doctor. The Tourist Route is about 3.5 kilometres long.

Yes, there are shops underground. After returning to the surface, you can also buy souvenirs – in the Żupnik shop, located in the Daniłowicz Shaft building. Check the offer of the online shop.

Smoking and electronic cigarettes, as well as electric flashlights and open fires are strictly forbidden in the Mine. This is regulated by the provisions of geological and mining law.

Is it true that mobile phones work in the Mine?

Accepted Answer

When wandering through the Wieliczka underground, you can relax and get away from the world. Therefore, only a few chambers on the Tourist Route have mobile phone coverage, Wi-Fi service is also available there.

Can an animal be taken to the Mine?

Bringing animals into the Mine is prohibited, with the exception of service animals.
The mine does not have a place where you can leave your pet.
