Indications for treatment in underground salt chambers
  • bronchial asthma
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • recurrent diseases of the nose, sinuses, throat and larynx
  • chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis
  • allergic diseases
Contraindications to rehabilitation in underground salt chambers
● Active cancer as well as:
- before 5 years have passed since malignant melanoma, leukaemia, malignant granuloma, malignant lymphomas, renal cancers;
- before 12 months have passed for other cancers in the case of surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy, with the exception of hormonal treatment.
● Suspected cancer until the diagnostic process is completed
●Primary or secondary immunodeficiency
- Taking immunosuppressive drugs is a relative contraindication
● Acute and chronic infectious diseases with clinical symptoms (being a carrier is not a contraindication)
● Severe musculoskeletal damage or disease, which prevents you from moving on your own
● Severe respiratory or cardiovascular failure, which limits your capacity to a resting lifestyle
● Elevated intracranial pressure, for example in the course of infectious diseases or as a result of trauma
● Recent (up to 6 months) surgery or trauma to the chest, abdomen, craniofacial region, brain or eyes
● Recent (up to 6 months) history of myocardial infarction or stroke
● Cerebral and aortic aneurysms
● Severe heart valve defects
● Diagnosed arrhythmias with a risk of loss of consciousness
● Untreated arterial hypertension, bleeding diathesis
● Mental illnesses, especially claustrophobia
● Rheumatic disorders involving your bones and joints
● Epilepsy in the form of focal seizures with loss of consciousness or focal seizures progressing to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures (at least once a month)
● Pregnancy and postnatal period
● Less than 4 years of age.
● Uncooperative patient
● Any other medical condition limiting the patient's ability to safely participate in the descent, access to the underground salt chambers, rehabilitation activities and passage via the evacuation route (relative contraindication).

If there are any doubts, the final decision will be made by the patient's qualifying doctor prior to the descent.

By deciding to accept the offer, you declare that you have read the contraindications to staying in the salt workings of the Mine.
Documentation (for treatment stays)
You should bring:
  • Identity card or passport
  • List of regular medications
  • information about hospital treatment and surgical procedures (hospital discharge summaries - for consultation)
  • information on allergies (if any)
  • If you have up-to-date (not older than a month) test results (urine, blood count, ECG) you might also bring them with you, although they are not required
Conditions underground
  • The temperature underground is around 13–14.5°C.
  • The humidity is approx. 60–75%
  • High humidity makes the temperature feel much lower.
What to bring?
  • Sporty, comfortable clothing and sports shoes
  • When going underground, it is best to dress in layers, since the temperature in the Health Resort is around 13–14.5°C.
  • Your own provisions - the Health Resort does not provide any refreshments underground
Medical examination
The medical examination before the stay usually takes place at the Wieliczka Salt Mine Health Resort - the Salt Mill building at Park Kingi 1, building I, 32-020 Wieliczka.

Meeting point:

Descents into the underground workings of the Health Resort take place via the Regis Shaft, which is located at pl. Kościuszki 9, in the heart of Wieliczka - entrance from the side of the fountain.

Stays with children

Children from 4 to 16 years of age are welcome (but only if accompanied by an adult).
An adult taking part in a rehabilitation or treatment stay may also be the guardian of a child up to 16 years of age.
