Meetings in the Depths
Meetings in the Depths, where the great famous and those not so famous would meet for evenings of poetry have long become one of the legends of the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine. Without a programme, without rigid frames, and without a list of invited guests, for this specific moment they would bring together cabaret artists, poets, and singers both those well-known and those completely unknown.
Meetings in the Depths drew on the tradition of Piwnica pod Baranami, but at the same time they created their own, unique atmosphere. After a moment, a discussion would turn into an anecdote, a cheerful song would open a night of memories. The meetings saw participation from such celebrities as Anna Szalapak, Krzysztof Globisz, Ewa Lipska, and Leszek Dlugosz. Robert Maklowicz imparted his culinary fascinations while students of Krakow’s theatre and music schools debuted on the stage presenting their works of music or poetry.
Although very deep under the ground, thoughts of the gathered audience soared up high. Anybody who had an opportunity to participate in the meetings surely remembers them to this day.
