United States Senators visit the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine

A delegation of senators from the US visited the Salt Mine in Wieliczka. The guests were welcomed by Damian Konieczny, President of the Board of the "Wieliczka" Salt Mine Tourist Route Sp. z o. o. and Marian Leśny, a member of the Board.

The senators – Richard M. Burr with his wife, Dianne Feinstein, Daniel Coats with his wife, Mark Warner with his wife, and Angus King – paid an unofficial visit to the historic underground location and walked along the Tourist Route. They were captivated by St Kinga’s Chapel, where they observed all sculptures and reliefs with great attention and asked their guide many questions – for example whether the corridors and chambers were mined out manually. The senators enjoyed the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine so much that they started to half-jokingly wonder why such an object does not exist in the US.

The visitors happily posed for a commemorative photograph. Apart from photographs, they will also have salt trinkets and souvenirs to remind them of their visit. The ladies also visited the store, where they purchased cosmetics based on salt and brine.

The senators left their signatures in the Book of Guests , which waited for them in the Wincenty Witos Chamber.
