The consul’s visit
The Consul General of Germany in Krakow, Dr Michael Groß, was the guest of the Board of Directors of Kopalnia Soli “Wieliczka” Trasa Turystyczna.
Michael Groβ has headed the honorary consulate in Krakow since September 2016, and his visit to the Mine was part of a tour of the Małopolska region. The Wieliczka visit included not only a tour of the Tourist Route, but also a meeting with the Board regarding collaboration between the consulate and the mine. The consul was enchanted by the underground sights, which he admitted to having wanted to see for a very long time.
In the Jan Haluszka I chamber, our guest left a message in the Visitors’ Book. “Wieliczka shows the incredible history of Poland and is at the same time a unique example of cultural heritage, a part of our joint European history,” he wrote. A lamp, called “zicherka”, made by the Wieliczka miner-sculptors, will serve the consul as a reminder of his visit to the Wieliczka underground.
